Camaraderie

“The thin line between homo-social and homo-erotic in army life can be so confusing and torturous for a gay soldier. Soldiers hug and kiss each other, say “I love you brother” to each other, sleep together – sometimes lean on each others’ chests, sometimes share a tiny mattress, have communal showers where they play “boy games” like throwing water and soap on each other, sometimes share a hot shower, sometimes masturbate together.”

You are a gift to god

“In a very real sense the soul of the LGBT community has been torn from the inside out. It laments that people whom others identify as not being “masculine” or “feminine” enough for whatever reason again stand on the outside looking in.” ENDA’s end is not here.

We Two

WE two boys together clinging,
One the other never leaving,
Up and down the roads going, North and South excursions making,
Power enjoying, elbows stretching, fingers clutching,
Arm’d and fearless, eating, drinking, sleeping, loving.
No law less than ourselves owning, sailing, soldiering, thieving,
threatening,
Misers, menials, priests alarming, air breathing, water drinking, on
the turf or the sea-beach dancing,
Cities wrenching, ease scorning, statutes mocking, feebleness
chasing,
Fulfilling our foray.

Walt Whitman, 1900. Leaves of Grass.

Uncanniness

I am a Pink Elephant. Is it strange? fine; the more stranger, the better. But it isn’t strange in the sense that it is contradictory. If there is a contradiction it is on the opposite sides. First, it is not consistent to believe in individual freedom and at the same time deny people’s right of leading a decent but different life (mainstream conservative paradox.) Second, and more importantly, it is not consistent to believe in control (even economic) and simultaneously claim individual freedom (and that’s the Democrat’s fundamental contradiction.)

WE are right

Pat Robertson endorsed Giuliani on Wednesday

Perhaps you tend to interpret this as a mishap. Well may be you shouldn’t. America is changing. Change is possible. Change is usually good. Change needs time and WE are right (if the is anything left.)

Stigma Damages

Gus van Sant, 2003. Elephant

Are we ready to enter a post-stigma era in “our” history? Is it right (right time) to abandon our strategic vigilance against defamation, stigma and prejudice and to assume a more “normal” approach in dealing with our every day lives or potentially controversial issues? Perhaps not many people automatically links a murderer’s behavior to his/her orientation anymore, but the legitimate question is are we on the safe ground now? Have we managed to surmount (not to mention defeat) those stigmas?

The Storm Within

“If I write, I unsettle. If I make a film, I unsettle. If I paint, I unsettle. If I exhibit my painting I unsettle, and if I don’t exhibit it, I unsettle. I have the capacity to be unsettling. I have resigned myself to it because I would like to e able to persuade. I will unsettle even after I am dead.”

Jean Cocteau, Diary of an Unknown

"Freedom means freedom for everyone."
